We all agree that the business world is full of individuals who say one thing and do the exact opposite. This has gone to such an extent that people have lost confidence in the financial sector. I have however taken a particular liking to Helane Morrison who has stood by her moral compass and has never hesitated to do the right thing. After her stint as a journalist Morrison pursued a degree in law where she performed impressively and was admitted to the bar of advocates. Having to degrees in two equal challenging fields is not an easy thing. Her ambition and determination has motivated many people myself included. I equate the financial sector with the Wild West where people played with no laws and rules to govern them. Helane Morrison has done a terrific job acting as the sheriff; I was impressed with her track record. A crooked investor or a way ward firm had a lot to fear since Morrison was never intimidated and it did not matter what position the partners held or how connected they were.
Helane Morrison was born and raised in Brooklyn. She has two degrees from two of the most prestigious universities in US; Northwestern University and University of California Berkeley School of Law where she attained her journalism and law bachelors respectively. She has worked at the US Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit and later at the Supreme Court. She was later appointed as the first woman head of the securities exchange and enforcement regulation agency in San Francisco. We can all agree that not many people can do what she has done. Morrison left a prestigious law career at Howard, Rice, Nemerovski Canady, Falk & Rabkin in order to fight for the vulnerable and to police the financial industry. They say history prefers the bold and those willing to stand for what they believe in and never compromising on their integrity. I know and believe that her name will be engraved in history books forever.
